In Shakespeare's sonnet, Shall I compare thee? the poet is clearly focusing on his feelings towards the subject of romance.
In the first two lines of the sonnet Shakespeare writes, Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate, he suggests that the woman he is describing, is lovelier than a summers day.
The third and fourth lines of the stanza state, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and summer's lease hath all too short a date. Shakespeare is giving the impression that winds might blow in summer, but the feelings he has for this particular woman will not waver. Also, that summers beauty has a limited amount of time, unlike hers.
In the following five lines, Shakespeare continues to empathise the beauty he sees in the subject of this sonnet, by explaining that, ...thy eternal summer shall not fade.
In the next three lines, Shakespeare begins creating the illusion that the beauty this woman holds, can over come Death itself. He writes, ...Nor shall Death brag thou wanderdt in his shade. He attempts to help the reader accept the fact that he believes this woman is so beautiful, that her grace and perfection is immortal.
Shakespeare concludes his sonnet by summarizing all that he has already wrote, by simply stating, So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. This means that as long as man- kind exists, he thinks shell always remain beautiful.
I'VE HAD FUCKING WRITERS BLOCK. What is this piece of shit?!
Now I need to do one on "To His Coy Mistress" which is a personal favourite of mine.
But yeah, let me know if there is room for improvments (of course there is)
cheers
